﻿Test Procedure for LDMOS Amplifier Interface

CONNECTIONS:
 K3:
  Amplifier Input to K3 Output.
  Amplifier Output to ANTENNA (Verify this connection carefully!)
  Amplifier PTT Input to K3 PTT Output (rear panel, leftmost connector, RCA, NOT the PTT, 2nd left connector.)
  Comms cable from P3 (top connector) to LDMOS Amplifer Controller Comm input (either Comm1 or Comm2) using Adapter.

 KX3:
  Amplifier Input to KX3 Output.
  Amplifier Output to ANTENNA (Verify this connection carefully!)
  Amplifier PTT Input to KX3 PTT Output (Using small adapter from ACC2 to RCA "Amp" adapter.)
  Comms cable from ACC1 connector to LDMOS Amplifer Controller Comm input (either Comm1 or Comm2).

 LDMOS Amplifier Controller:
  Set Program switch (Red tip) to Down position (Inhibit Programming).
  Connect to 9v Power.
  Disconnect USB Cable to computer.
  Connect 15 pin (blue) cable to back of Amplifier.
  Connect 2 Pin Red/Black cable from pigtail on the back of the Controller to the Power Supply

POWER On/Off:

[ ] Boot up of Arduino from power off, verify that it does not toggle any of the relays in the amplifier, or turn on the amplifier even briefly.

[ ] Verify on boot up that the current version number is displayed along with the W0IH splash screen.

[ ] Rig off, Press select button, prints message that there was no comms to the radio.  
    Verify alternating "No Comm with Rig" & "Select to Retry" error messages. 
    Power up rig, wait a few seconds and press the "Select" button.  Verify that system starts up normally. 

[ ] Rig on, set to each of the valid ham bands, press select button to power up on each band.
    Should power up and identify the correct band.
    Verify Amplifier band selection is correct for each valid ham band.  
    Verify “Receive” indication and correct (approximate) Temperature. 
    Verify 50v readout.

[ ] With rig connected first comm port 1, Verify Comm 1 identified on power up. 
    With rig connected to comm port 2, Verify Comm 2 identified on power up. 

[ ] Verify holding select button for 2 to 3 seconds will turn Arduino display and Amplifier off.  
    Verify CW Message "OFF".
    Ignore "To Keep Rig On, Push Left" message.
    Verify that the Rig also Turns Off.
    Verify with both the KX3 and K3.

[ ] With system operating normally on valid band, Press and hold the Select Button.  
    When the Message appears, "To Keep Rig On, Push Left", press the Left Key.
    Verify that the Rig does NOT turn off.
    Verify with both the KX3 and K3.

[ ] With the system correctly running, after any error, press the Left button.
    Verify that the last CW message is repeated.

[ ] Connect to K3 and power up, verify from K3 menu that the KPA3 is in bypass mode.
    Hold select button in for three seconds to power system down.
    Verify that the menu shows that the KPA3 is now back in operating mode.

[ ] With K3 connected, power off K3 first, manually.
    Then hold select key to turn off Arduino.
    Verify error message indicating “K3 Amp Not On!”.

[ ] With K3 Connected and system powered up, 
    Press and Hold the Select Key to power system off.
   Turn on K3 again (not the Controller).
   Verify that the K3 KAT3 has been re-enabled and the Tune Power is set to 10 watts (Default.)

[ ] With KX3 Connected and system powered up, Press and Hold the Select Key to power system off.
    Turn on KX3 again (not the Controller) and verify that the KX3 Tune Power is set to 3 watts (Default.)

[ ] Rig on, set to outside any ham band.
    Press select button, should power up but say invalid band.
    Verify Bypass mode on amplifier top line.
    Verify Amplify light on Amp is NOT on.
    Verify up button will not put it into operate mode.

[ ] Rig on, set to 30 and 60 m band, press select button got Band Power Setup.
    Display should indicate invalid band.
    System must be in the Receive Mode.
    Verify Bypass mode indicated on top line of dislpay.
    Verify Amplify light on Amp is NOT on.
    Verify up button will not put it into operate mode.
    Verify “Receive” and correct (approximate Temperature).

[ ] With system operating normally on valid band, disconnect comms from radio.
    Verify display band as "Unkn" & CW response, indicating loss of communications with radio.
    Verify "Bypass" mode indicate on the top line.
    Verify Amplify light on Amp is NOT on.
    Reconnect Comms and verify system returns to normal.
    Verify the Bypass indicate is cleared from the Display. 
    Verify the Amplify light on the Amp is on. 
 
[ ] With system operating normally on an invalid band (60m), disconnect comms from radio.
    Verify display band as "Unkn" & CW response, indicating loss of communications with radio.
    Verify "Bypass" mode indicate on the top line.
    Verify Amplify light on Amp is off.
    Reconnect Comms and verify system returns to normal.
    Verify the Bypass indicate is still on the Display. 
    Verify the Amplify light on the Amp is off. 

[ ] Disconnect DC cable from Arduino box to Power Supply. 
    Press Select key to power up system.
    Verify alternating messages "50 Volt Fail" and "Select to Retry".
    Connect DC cable from Arduino box to Power Supply.
    Press Select key and verify correct system power up. 

BAND CHANGE:

[ ] With the amplifier in normal operating condition, transmit, then as soon as you release the microphone button, change bands. 
    Verify that the band does not change for several seconds after the band change is complete.

SWR READOUT TESTS:

[ ] Transmit using a microphone and verify reasonable FWD/REF power readout.

[ ] Set band on radio to 75 m, connected to 80m dipole. 
    Change amplifier to Bypass mode using the Down key.
    Verify the "Amplify" light on the ampifier is off.
    Adjust rig transmit frequency until rig SWR shows approximately 1.8:1 SWR.
    Set Amplifier to Operate mode using the Up key.
    Verify the "Amplify" light on the amplifier is on.
    Verify display shows approximately 1.8:1 SWR on both tune and voice peaks.

SWR ERROR:

[ ] Trigger SWR error.
    Use antenna where SWR is close to 2:1 and click your fingers into the microphone.
    Verify "SWR ERROR" & "Left Key Clear" messages on Display and CW message.
    Press left button and verify amplifier shuts down, reboot, and comes up correctly.
    Verify that the Rig does not turn off.
    Verify correct band on Power Up.

FAN OPERATION:

[ ] Run amplifier on 160 m to a usable antenna, until ampifier fan comes and stays on when in receive mode.
    Note the temperature.  On Temp:________
    Wait until fan shuts off, and note temperature again.  Off Temp:________

[ ] Using a heat gun, warm up the amplifier temperature sensor until the over-temperature alarm is triggered on the Amplifier.
    Note the temperature where this occurs. Alarm Temp:________
    Verify error message "Over Temp xx^", "Wait for Clear" and CW message.
    Wait until the temperature cools, note temperature.  Clear Temp:______
    Verify that the amplifier can be used.
    Verify the system comes with the correct band and in operate mode.

[ ] Using a heat gun, gently warm up the Arduino box.
    Verify that the internal fan comes on.
    Verify that the fan turns off when the fan cools the box down.

POWER SUPPLY TESTS:

[ ] System off.
    Disconnect 5 V line from Arduino to power supply.
    Power the system on.
    Verify appropriate message on display.
    Reconnect 5v Power.
    Press Select to Recover.
    Verify correct band and operation.

[ ] System on.
    Disconnect 5 V line from Arduino to power supply.
    Power the system on.
    Verify appropriate message on display.
    Reconnect 5v Power.
    Press Select to Recover.
    Verify correct band and operation.

[ ] Change all power supplies to a lower voltage.  
    Verify correct voltage.
    Reset all supplies to 12.5v.
    Verify approximately 50v on line 2 of the display. 

SETUP POWER LEVELS:

[ ] Test band power levels. Verify band power cannot be sent below 1 W.
    Verify band power cannot be set above the maximum level for each band.
       (12 w for all but 6m which should be 8 w)

[ ] Enter Setup Rig Power mode.
    Set each band, 160 thru 6m to a different Power value. (Record each)
     160___  80___  40___  20___  17___  15___  12___ 10___  6___
     (Hint: Pressing the Right or Left buttons allows you to change the Band quickly.)
    Power system off, comletely.
    Power system on again.
    Set to each valid band.
    Verify both the Power and Tune Power are correctly set for each band.
     160___  80___  40___  20___  17___  15___  12___ 10___  6___

BYPASS MODE:

[ ] With system set to a valid band, verify that you can press the Down button to change to Bypass mode.
    Verify the amplify LED on the Amplifier turns OFF.
    Press the Up button to change to the Operate mode.
    Verify the amplify LED on the Amplifier turns ON.
    Verify the Down button does nothing and that it remains in Bypass mode. 

[ ] With system powered on, change rig from valid band to 60 m.
    Verify that you cannot press the up button to put the system in to operate mode.
    System should beep once.
    Must remain in bypass mode.
    Verify the Down button does nothing and that it remains in Bypass mode. 

[ ] With rig on a valid band, tune to just outside the ham band.
    Verify the amp goes into Bypass mode.
    Verify the amp cannot be changed to the Operate mode with the Up button.

      QUESTION: Do I want the continious beep when outside the Ham Bands???

SETUP BYPASS/OPERATE:

[ ] Set up for BYP/OPR set to Bypass in the Setup Menu.
    Rig on, set to a valid ham bands, press select button.
    Verify on power up that system identifies the correct band but be in Bypass mode (Byp on top line).
    Verify "Amplify" light on amp is OFF.
    Set to operate, by pressing the UP button.
    Verify the "Byp" indication on the top line goes away.
    Verify "Amplify" light on amp is OFF.
    Set rig different bands, verify that for each band the rig Display shows 
      bypass mode. 
    Verify that the UP button will put it into operate mode.

[ ] Set up for BYP/OPR set to Operate in the Setup Menu.
    Rig on, set to a valid ham bands, press select button.
    System should power up and identify the correct band but be in Operate mode (Byp not on top line).  
    Set rig different bands, verify that for each band the rig Display is in Operate mode.
    Verify that the Down button will put it in Bypass mode and up button will put it into Operate mode.

[ ] Set up for BYP/OPR set to Operate in the Setup Menu.
    Rig on, set to a In-valid ham bands.
    Press select button, should power up and identify the correct band but be in Bypass mode (Byp on top line).  
    Attempt to set to operate, by pressing the up button. Must remain in Bypass mode.
    Set rig different valid bands, verify that for each band the rig Display is automatically in  
      Operate mode.  
    Invalid Bands (30m & 60m) must be in Bypass and cannot be set to Operate.

[ ] Set up for BYP/OPR set to Operate in the Setup Menu and Rig on a Valid Band, change to Bypass mode.
    Change Bands to another Valid Band.
    Verify that the rig automatically returns to the Operate Mode with a valid band change. 

SETUP TIMEOUT:

[ ] Set up for one hour Timeout Period.
    Verify time decrement approximately every minute.
    Verify that once the time reaches 10 minutes, but there is one beep.
    Verify at nine minutes left, there are two beeps.
    Continue down until there are 10 beeps at one minute.
    Verify that I had zero minutes, the amplifier and Arduino go into the office mode.
    Verify that the Rig also powers down.
    Verify with both the KX3 and K3.

[ ] Test set up timeout set to nine hours, eight hours, etc.
    Verify that the time correctly decrement‘s.

[ ] After Time on the display has decrease normally, press the right button and verify that the system recovers to the correct timeout time.


OPERATIONAL TESTS:

[ ] Operate the rig with the amplifier enabled and turned on. Verify there are no adverse effects when opening rig menus and other functions.
